2016 Pride Mountain - 1/2 Bottle Cabernet Sauvignon - "Estate" Napa/Sonoma, CA
Jeb Dunnuck: Napa Valley’s 2016 - Rating: 98
Starting with the two 2016s and another tremendous wine from this estate, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes 67% from Napa Valley and 33% from Sonoma County. Based on 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, it's ruby/purple hue is followed by a classic Pride Cabernet offering notes of blackcurrants, lead pencil, espresso, camphor, new saddle leather, and spicy oak. Beautifully concentrated, full-bodied, and with ripe tannins, it has nothing out of place, offers a multi-dimensional, layered texture, and builds incrementally on the palate, with flawless balance. It shows the more nuanced, classical style of the 2015 vintage and will cruise in cool cellars for two decades.

2009 Chateau Belgrave 5th Growth Bordeaux Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux, France
Vinous 90 points - The 2009 Belgrave has a ripe red cherry, kirsch scented bouquet with hints of raisin and fig. It is just flirting with over-ripeness,but not over-ripe! The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit, a little chewy in texture and perhaps needing more mineralite on the finish. Yet, there is fine density and decent precision on the finish.

2016 Burna Grimaldi Dolcetto d'Alba "DOC" Alba, Piedmonte, Italy
From the Winery:
Dolcetto has always been part of the history of Langhe and is the everyday-drinking wine: our grandparents always say that “a meal cannot be considered a proper one without a glass of Dolcetto”. The name takes its origin from the characteristics of the grape variety which is known for its robust and delicious flavor, not from the characteristics of the wine that is always dry.
Dolcetto is purple-colored with pronounced vinous to fruity aromas of red fruits, blueberry, raspberry. It is dry on the palate and shows a good structure, softness and freshness with a finely tannic and unique finish.
Food pairing: appetizers, cold cuts, starters, salads, pasta with tomato sauce and white meat.
ORIGIN
Grape variety: Dolcetto 100%.
Vineyards: family’s historical vineyard.
Altitude: between 200 and 350 m.a.s.l.
Exposure: South – South East.
Soil: lean and shallow soil where the vine finds the ideal conditions to produce to produce balanced bunches and to reach ideal ripening.
Harvest: harvest is done by hand in the first 10 days of September.
Winemaking
The fresh grapes are destemmed and fermented at low temperature in order to preserve the fruity aromas and flavors. The cap is managed through light punch downs which are carried out daily.
Aging: both the malolactic fermentation and the refinement are carried out in 70 years old concrete tanks. The wine is bottled at the end of the spring so that it spends a couple of months in bottle before being released in autumn

The inky-indigo color suggests the depth of flavors to follow. Wild blackberry, dried cranberry and brown sugar aromas tickle your nose. Hints of cedar and cinnamon tease and meld effortlessly with the vibrant fruit flavors. The wine begins with a lush soft entry bringing fresh tart cherries and raspberry jam into focus, then follows with boisterous red current. The seductive finish isn't cloying and sweet, but rather refined, lush and succulent, and the integrated tannins and great balance of savory and spice will continue to gain in complexity over the next fifteen years.

This wine is inspired by our work and travels along the hills of the Northern Rhone valley. 2018 Von Strasser Cabernet Sauvignon "Diamond Mountain" Napa Valley, CA
Rudy von Strasser’s latest blend, from a range of sources on Diamond Mountain, is a knockout. Since he sold his estate vineyard, he has rejiggered this wine; for 2016, he focused on the most concentrated lots in his cellar. The wine has a range of fresh wild-berry flavor, clean, pure notes of blackberries, mulberries and blueberries that completely saturate the earthiness of the tannins. The fruit incorporates those rocky tannins into an overall impression that’s gentle and rich. Fresh, floral and substantial, this is approachable as a young wine and beautifully balanced for a long life ahead.

2016 Reynvaan Family Vineyards (Syrah)- In the Rocks Vineyard, Walla Walla, Washington
Critical Acclaim
98
Jeb Dunnuck
The 2016 Syrah Estate Stonessence (100% Syrah) is similarly purple-colored and has a gamier, more exotic profile. Plums, blackberries, blueberries, cured meats, ground pepper, and iron notes all flow to a powerful, medium to full-bodied Syrah that has a singular, layered character. It shows the more elegant, seamless style of the vintage and is a beautiful, beautiful wine. Bravo!
Winemaker Notes
Sourced entirely from their In the Rocks vineyard. Native yeast fermentation. Raised in 1/3 new and 2/3 neutral French Oak for 18 months, both 600 liter puncheons and barriques, it represents Reynvaan’s most mineral- driven wine. Bottled unfined & unfiltered. 10 additional months ageing in bottle before release. The Stonessence showcases the traditional Old World Syrah characteristics of stones, game, pepper, and raspberry. Think old-school, classic Cornas by way of Walla Walla.
